St. Marks Headwaters Greenway, Baum Road, Tallahassee
This is the newest county park that accommodates equestrians. It will be finished in two phases. The first phase, accessed off of Baum Road, opened on January 24, 2018. It consists of 160 acres and has a large equestrian parking lot. The trail map is posted at the kiosk at the parking area. There are 3 miles of mowed trails with lots of side trails for diversity. The terrain is flat and consists of open areas and wooded areas. One section follows a railroad track but there is plenty of foliage and a fence separating riders from the track. Another section weaves among a live oak hammock which is very picturesque. There is also a section that contains an area where dirt was taken for some purpose and it allows for “hill” work. There are lots of things to explore on this greenway and it’s well worth a visit. There is a port-a-potty at this trail head.
